The above image was a collaboration between multiple artists. I was responsible for image layout, final touches, and direction. I directed another artist in the creation of color blocking and variations.
This is the 4th Lackadaisy piece that I have worked on, and for this one I had the opportunity to lead a full team of background painters! In addition, I directed color design within my Art Direction role. My favorite choice regarding color was to use purple for the dark environment of the garage as a contrast to the yellow dress which the bright and sunny young Ivy wears. The contrast between the outside and the inside of the garage also represents the two sides of the Lackadaisy business: the cafe, and the illegal rum-running business that it is a front for.
I served as Art Director for the first time on this short! Again, my favorite aspect of directing is color which serves the narrative. Going with blues and oranges pushes the depth of the space as well as symbolizes the struggle between these two opposing characters.
